How to Get a Motorsport Sponsor

    7 min read

Whether you race karts, motocross, rally, circuit, drift or endurance, sponsors rarely come from luck. They come from a clear offer, the right targets and consistent follow-up. This guide walks through the process step by step.

    1. Understand what a sponsor is actually buying

A sponsor is not donating to your season. They are buying access to an audience, a story and a way to reach customers. Your results matter, but what you offer in return matters more: visibility, content, hospitality, product feedback or local community reach.

    2. Build a professional racing profile

Before contacting anyone, make it easy to say yes. Put your results, racing calendar, audience numbers and photos in one place that you can share with a single link.

    • Discipline, class and championship you compete in
    • Recent results and progression, not only wins
    • Social media audience and engagement
    • Season calendar with locations and expected attendance
    • Clear photos of your car, kart or bike and available logo space

    3. Start with the right targets

Your best first sponsors are usually close to you: local businesses, companies your family owns or network already known, brands whose customers match your audience, and companies in the regions where you race. Large national brands typically come later, once you have a track record of delivering for partners.

    4. Create tiered sponsorship packages

Offer several levels so a sponsor can start small. For example, a product-support level, a logo-placement level and a main partner level. Each level should list exactly what the sponsor receives: logo position, social posts per month, event passes, appearances or content.

    5. Write a short, personalised pitch

Keep the first message brief. Say who you are, why you chose that company specifically, what their customers gain from your audience, and propose a short call. Attach or link your profile and sponsorship deck rather than writing everything in the email.

    6. Follow up and deliver

Most replies come after a follow-up. Once a deal is signed, the real work starts: post what you promised, send regular reports with photos and numbers, and thank sponsors publicly. Sponsors who see results renew, and renewals are far easier than new deals.
